Learning Support Assistant – Secondary School (Totton)

Are you passionate about supporting young people in education? Do you have a calm, caring nature and a desire to make a difference in the classroom? Teaching Personnel is currently recruiting for a committed Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join one of our welcoming partner secondary schools in the Totton area from September.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who thrives in a supportive environment and is eager to help students with Special Educational Needs (SEN), Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, or other learning barriers achieve their full potential.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver one-to-one or small group support to students, helping them engage with their learning.

  • Assist teaching staff with lesson preparation, classroom activities and pupil engagement.

  • Promote confidence, independence and positive learning habits.

  • Support pupils with SEN and SEMH needs, tailoring approaches to suit individual learning styles.

  • Help manage behaviour effectively, following school policies and procedures.

  • Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs and pastoral teams to create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment.


What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience: Previous work with secondary-aged students is preferred, especially those with additional needs.

  • Knowledge: Understanding of SEN and behaviour support strategies is desirable.

  • Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal abilities, with a calm and encouraging approach.

  • Commitment: A reliable, enthusiastic team player who shares our commitment to student wellbeing.

  • Safeguarding: Awareness of safeguarding and child protection expectations in a school setting.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
