Are you passionate about helping young people overcome barriers and reach their full potential?
Teaching Personnel is recruiting for a dedicated and resilient Teaching Assistant to join a highly supportive Pupil Referral Service (PRS) in Rochdale this September. This is a rewarding opportunity to support children and young people who require a more personalised educational approach and to play a key role in helping them succeed both inside and outside the classroom.
About the Provision
This specialist setting supports pupils aged 5-16 who are unable to access mainstream education due to a range of social, emotional and behavioural challenges. Many students have SEMH needs, SEN requirements, or have experienced significant disruptions to their education.
The school provides a nurturing, structured and trauma-informed environment where young people are encouraged to rebuild confidence, develop positive relationships and re-engage with learning at their own pace.
The Role
As a Teaching Assistant, you'll be more than classroom support; you'll be a positive role model, mentor and trusted adult for pupils who need consistency and encouragement.
Working closely with teachers, pastoral staff and external professionals, you will provide tailored support that helps pupils make progress academically, emotionally and socially.
No two days are the same, making this an exciting and highly rewarding role for someone who thrives on making a genuine difference.
Your Responsibilities
- Deliver targeted 1:1 and small-group support
- Support pupils with SEMH, SEN and behavioural needs
- Build positive, trusting relationships that promote engagement and attendance
- Encourage emotional regulation and positive decision-making
- Adapt learning activities to suit individual needs and support plans
- Promote independence, confidence and resilience
- Use restorative and trauma-informed approaches to behaviour support
- Contribute to a safe, structured and inclusive learning environment
- Collaborate with teaching staff, pastoral teams and external professionals
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to pupil progress reviews
What We're Looking For
Essential:
✔ Experience working within a PRU, PRS, SEMH provision, SEN school, youth work or similar setting
✔ A calm, patient and resilient approach when managing challenging situations
✔ Strong communication and relationship-building skills
✔ A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable children and young people
✔ The ability to maintain professional boundaries while building trust
✔ Commitment to a full-time, long-term role
Desirable:
✔ Team Teach training (or willingness to undertake training)
✔ Understanding of trauma-informed practice and restorative behaviour approaches
✔ Experience supporting pupils with SEMH, autism or additional learning needs
Why Join Through Teaching Personnel?
- Competitive weekly pay
- Access to CPD and specialist training opportunities
- Ongoing support from a dedicated consultant
- Opportunity to make a lasting impact on young people's lives
