Learning Support Assistant–  September 2025  – Newport

Salary: £24,790 – £25,183 per year (FTE) or £89.83 – £94 per day (depending on experience)
Contract: 1-Year Fixed Term
Working Pattern: Term-Time Only
Start Date: September 2025
Locations: Newport & Cwmbran, South Wales

We are recruiting Learning Support Assistant’s for next academic year in Newport secondary schools. These roles offer the chance to support students both academically and personally in a vibrant school setting.


Current Vacancies:

  • 2 x Full-Time Teaching Assistant roles (Newport – Sept 2025 start)
  • 1 x Part-Time Teaching Assistant role (Newport – Sept 2025 start)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to students, including those with additional learning needs (ALN)
  • Assist in implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behaviour strategies
  • Encourage student participation and build confidence
  • Manage classroom behaviour and promote a safe, inclusive environment
  • Support teachers with lesson delivery, learning activities, and classroom tasks
  • Supervise students during non-lesson times and assist on school trips

What We’re Looking For:

  • 5 GCSEs (A–C) including English and Maths or equivalent
  • Previous classroom or child-facing experience (desirable but not essential)
  • Calm, supportive approach with strong communication skills
  • Ability to adapt to the needs of individual students
  • Experience in behaviour management or use of de-escalation techniques is a plus

Ideal Backgrounds:

  • Recent graduates
  • Youth workers, sports coaches, mentors
  • Individuals with experience in care, SEN support, or the armed forces
  • Experienced LSAs or TAs looking for a new challenge
