Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated SEN Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist secondary school in Middleton supporting pupils with a range of complex needs, including ASC, PMLD, CLDD, SEMH, communication difficulties, and sensory needs.

This is a rewarding role for someone who is passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning, build confidence, and achieve their potential.

The Role

You will provide 1:1 and small group support, helping pupils access learning, develop independence, and regulate their emotions in a structured and supportive environment.

You must be: ✅ Confident managing and responding to challenging behaviours using a proactive and positive approach

✅ Comfortable supporting personal care needs where required, including toileting, hygiene, feeding, and mobility support

✅ Able to build positive relationships and remain calm under pressure

✅ Proactive, resilient, and able to use your own initiative

Requirements

✔ Experience supporting children or young people with SEND

✔ Experience managing challenging behaviour

✔ Willingness to support personal care needs

✔ Strong communication and relationship-building skills

✔ Patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach

Desirable

Team Teach or willing to obtain

⭐ Experience supporting pupils with ASC, PMLD, CLDD, or SEMH needs

⭐ Knowledge of PECS, Makaton, AAC, or other communication systems

⭐ Experience within specialist schools, care, or support settings

Compliance

✅ Enhanced Child and Adult DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
