Dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant Required
A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Burnley is seeking a caring, patient and committed Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026. This is a full-time, term-time-only position supporting children within a dedicated SEND Nurture Room.
This rewarding role is ideal for someone who is passionate about helping pupils with additional needs achieve their full potential. You will work closely with teaching staff and SEND professionals to provide personalised support for children who require additional help with their learning, social development and emotional wellbeing.
The Role
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Provide support to pupils within a dedicated nurture and SEND provision
- Build positive relationships that help children feel safe, valued and confident
- Support pupils with their learning, communication and social development
- Work with small groups and on a one-to-one basis when required
- Implement individual support plans and learning strategies
- Encourage positive behaviour and emotional regulation
- Assist with classroom activities and tailored interventions
- Monitor progress and provide feedback to teachers and SEND staff
- Help create a nurturing, inclusive and engaging learning environment
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who:
- Has previous experience working with children, ideally within a SEND or school setting
- Is patient, resilient and able to build strong relationships with pupils
- Has a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
- Can work effectively as part of a team
- Demonstrates excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Is confident supporting children with a range of needs, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH and speech and language difficulties
- Can remain calm, positive and professional in challenging situations
Relevant qualifications such as a Teaching Assistant Level 2 or Level 3 qualification are desirable but not essential. Applications from candidates with transferable experience from care, support work, youth work or similar backgrounds are also welcomed.
