We are currently seeking a Key Stage 3 Teacher to work a full time basis at one of our local schools in Portsmouth.

The school is an alternative provision which provides education for those pupils in KS3 and KS4, who have Social Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH) which prevent them from accessing their mainstream place. There are 95 places for learners with Education and Health Care Plans (EHCPs), 105 Alternative Provision (AP) places and 38 places funded from the ‘medical block’. The class sizes are small (no more than 6 per class), this means a lot less marking and you will have time set aside for planning and preparation during the school hours

The school makes provision for learners who require a short period of Alternative Provision away from mainstream school and for learners with long term and complex SEMH Needs. They operate under an SLA with Portsmouth City Council and are in the process of converting to academy status.

The successful candidate must:

  • be nurturing and enthusiastic
  • be resilient
  • be confident working with students with SEMH/challenging behaviour
  • have previous teaching experience
  • be able to demonstrate a good understanding of the role of a KS3 teacher
  • have the ability to engage pupils in their learning and support them in their social, emotional and personal wellbeing

To be successful in this role it is desirable if you:

  • have experience teaching students with SEMH or SEN
  • are willing to cover all subjects when required

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ’s on the Teaching Personnel website for details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
