Job description

Year 1 Teacher (Supply) – For Those Who Teach Differently

Are you a Year 1 teacher who thrives on variety, autonomy, and actually having a life outside the classroom? This isn’t your typical full-time post. This is supply—with all the hidden perks that people don’t talk about (but should).

We’re looking for a confident, creative KS1 specialist who understands that Year 1 is the pivotal bridge between play-based learning and structured curriculum—and knows how to make that transition magical.

The Role

  • Deliver engaging, phonics-rich, curiosity-led lessons in Year 1 classrooms across a range of welcoming primary schools
  • Step into established routines with ease—no long-term planning stress required
  • Build quick rapport with pupils and staff (your superpower!)
  • Bring consistency, calm, and a sense of fun—even on a rainy Tuesday afternoon

Why Supply (Genuinely) Beats Permanent Right Now

Let’s be honest this is where it gets interesting:

✔ Zero Planning Burnout
Walk in, teach brilliantly, walk out. No evenings lost to marking or data drops.

✔ Test-Drive Schools

Experience different leadership styles, cultures, and classrooms before committing anywhere long-term.

✔ Reclaim Your Evenings
No staff meetings. No policy rewrites. No “quick chats” at 4:45pm.

✔ Sharpen Your Practice Fast
Working across schools accelerates your adaptability, behaviour management, and curriculum knowledge.

✔ Work-Life Balance That Actually Exists
This isn’t a buzzword here—it’s the baseline.

We’re Looking For Someone Who:

  • Has QTS and recent experience in KS1 (Year 1 essential)
  • Loves early reading, phonics, and those “lightbulb moments”
  • Can confidently pick up pre-planned lessons and make them their own
  • Brings warmth, structure, and a sense of humour to the classroom
  • Doesn’t need micromanaging

This Role Is Perfect If You:

  • Left a full-time role and don’t miss the workload
  • Are returning to teaching and want flexibility
  • Want to fall back in love with teaching again
  • Secretly enjoy being the “fresh energy” in a classroom

The Offer

  • Competitive daily rates
  • Flexible working (full-time, part-time, or ad hoc)
  • Opportunities for long-term placements if you want them (no pressure)
  • Support from a team that actually understands primary teaching

If you know that great teaching isn’t about ticking boxes—but about connection, instinct, and energy—this could be exactly the reset you didn’t know you needed.

Apply now and teach on your terms.
