An opportunity has arisen for an Inclusion Support Worker within an alternative Provision in Scissett.
The school caters for pupils in Key Stages 2-4 with severe and complex Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Our client is part of a multi academy trust, and the team works in close partnership with schools in Barnsley, Leeds, Grimsby and Lincolnshire forming a pan-regional community of SEMH expertise.
Inclusion Support Workers fulfil an important role within school, helping to build a secure and happy school atmosphere and supporting pupils to learn effectively.
The school's approach, including nurture principles, social pedagogy and restorative practice, is unique in the District and staff work collaboratively to provide the best possible experience for all pupils. Pupils are organised into nurture groups; and the school day is structured, alongside a curriculum to support pupils with SEMH difficulties.
You role as an Inclusion Support Worker will involve providing practical support for learning and other school activities, helping pupils to develop their academic, social and emotional skills. This will involve working with small groups and/or individual pupils in and out of the classroom. As an Inclusion Support Worker, you will make considerable use of effective communication and conciliatory skills including the use of restorative practices with pupils, schools and families. You will need to be experienced at managing difficult conversations, meetings and diffusing challenging behaviour. The majority of pupils are extremely vulnerable and can have very complex family backgrounds. You will be willing and able to travel across the Kirklees Authority for work purposes when required.
Key duties:
- Support pupils to engage in all learning activities, learn effectively and make good progress
- Ensure pupils are supported and managed appropriately during lessons, break times, lunchtimes, on school visits and, when required, in travelling to and from school
- Maintain regular contact with parents/carers - providing support and advice to set targets to achieve positive outcomes and meet the needs of young people
- Ensure teaching resources are researched, selected and prepared that meet the diversity of pupils' needs and interests
- Plan and deliver appropriate support processes - including personalised programmes of learning, Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning (SEAL) and Assessment for Learning (AfL) - that promote positive behaviours and re-engage disaffected pupils
- Maintain and analyse pupils' records of progress, attendance and attainment in order to evidence interventions, actions taken, value added outcomes and successes
We are seeking individuals with a genuine passion and commitment to supporting pupils with complex SEMH needs, who are resilient and able to effectively support young people with additional needs to achieve and who will strive for the best possible outcomes. This role may suit candidates who hope to develop a career within the Special Education Sector. College/University graduates are welcome to apply as full training will be offered. Teaching Personnel are able offer a career path for aspiring teachers through our Future Teachers programme. Please contact Rebecca Barham for more information.
