Are you a passionate Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) looking to make a genuine difference in the lives of young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN)? Teaching Personnel is excited to offer a fantastic opportunity to join a well-established, highly supportive secondary SEN provision based in the Salford area.

This is a rewarding role within a specialist setting that supports pupils aged 11–19 with a range of additional needs, including Autism (ASC), Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Complex Needs, Speech & Language Difficulties, and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges. The school provides a nurturing and inclusive environment, with a strong emphasis on personal development, life skills and positive behaviour support.


The Role

As a HLTA, you will play a vital role in supporting teaching and learning across the school. This is a dynamic and hands-on position, ideal for someone who is confident, proactive, and committed to supporting pupils with additional needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver planned lessons and interventions across a range of subjects
  • Provide targeted 1:1 and small group support for students with SEN
  • Support pupils with EHCPs (Education, Health and Care Plans)
  • Promote positive behaviour management strategies and emotional regulation
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists and support staff
  • Adapt learning materials to meet individual learning needs and abilities
  • Encourage independence, confidence and social development
  • Assist with tracking pupil progress and reporting outcomes
  • Support classroom organisation and maintain a safe, structured environment

✅ Requirements:

  • Proven experience working with children or young people with SEN (essential)
  • HLTA status or equivalent experience in a similar role
  • Strong understanding of Autism, SEMH, MLD, and complex needs
  • Confident in leading learning activities and managing a classroom
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Resilient, patient and compassionate approach
  • Ability to build positive relationships and engage hard-to-reach learners
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
