Position: Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)
Location: Wirral Area
Contract: Full-Time | Temp to Perm

About the Role

A specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) school in the Wirral is seeking an experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join its dedicated team. The school supports students with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and is committed to creating a nurturing, inclusive environment where every child can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Learning Support: Assists with lesson planning and delivery, working with small groups or individual students to reinforce learning and address barriers to progress.

  • Pastoral Care: Builds trusting relationships with pupils, demonstrating empathy and understanding to support both their emotional well-being and academic development.

  • Collaboration: Works closely with teachers, parents, and external professionals to ensure each student’s care and learning plans are effectively implemented.

  • Positive Behaviour Management: Promotes a safe, supportive classroom environment through positive behaviour strategies.

  • Professional Development: Actively participates in training and development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in supporting children with additional needs.

Candidate Requirements

  • Experience: Previous experience in a school setting is essential; experience with SEMH or special educational needs is highly desirable.

  • Empathy & Patience: Demonstrates a genuine passion for supporting children with SEMH needs, with the resilience to respond positively to challenges.

  • Teamwork: Works collaboratively with colleagues, families, and multi-agency teams.

  • Adaptability: Adapts effectively to the diverse and changing needs of students.

  • Qualifications: Holds HLTA status or an equivalent qualification.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
