Job Title: Higher-Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) - Level 5 Qualified

Contract Type: Fixed Term (Due to Funding) Hours: Full-time (Monday - Friday, 8.30 am - 3.30 pm during term time, 39 weeks per annum) Location: Plymouth

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Level 5 qualified Higher-Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our dedicated team at [School Name], located in the vibrant Plymouth area. This role is on a Fixed Term contract, reflecting the current funding situation. The successful candidate will report directly to class teachers and senior staff, playing a pivotal role in supporting students' access to learning, with a focus on Reading and Literacy Intervention.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Reading and Literacy Intervention: Lead and deliver targeted interventions to improve students' reading and literacy skills. Work collaboratively with class teachers to identify and support pupils who require additional assistance.

  2. Curriculum Support: Assist in planning and delivering lessons, focusing on reading and literacy development. Collaborate with teaching staff to tailor materials and activities to meet the diverse needs of students.

  3. Assessment and Progress Monitoring: Regularly assess and monitor the progress of students participating in intervention programs. Provide feedback to both students and teachers, adapting strategies as needed to ensure positive outcomes.

  4. Individualized Support: Provide one-on-one or small group support to pupils who require additional help, ensuring they can fully engage with the curriculum.

  5. Collaborative Approach: Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and other professionals to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment. Attend relevant meetings and contribute to the development of Individual Education Plans (IEPs).

  6. Behavioral Support: Implement effective behaviour management strategies, fostering a positive and respectful atmosphere within the classroom.

  7. Professional Development: Stay updated on the latest educational practices and research related to reading and literacy intervention. Attend training sessions and workshops to enhance skills and knowledge.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Level 5 qualification in Education or equivalent.
  • Proven experience working in a teaching assistant role, with a focus on Reading and Literacy Intervention.
  • Strong understanding of mainstream education practices.

Contract Details:

This is a full-time position during term time, with additional responsibilities during INSET days. The Fixed Term contract is in place due to funding constraints, with the potential for extension based on future funding availability.
