Job description
Teaching Personnel is working in partnership with a secure residential education setting in the Stannington, Morpeth area (Northumberland) to recruit an experienced and confident Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA).
This is a challenging and rewarding role supporting young people with complex needs in a secure learning environment.
About the Role:
As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, you will:
• Deliver learning activities to individuals and small groups, following lesson plans and adapting content to meet learners’ needs
• Provide targeted support to young people with SEND, SEMH, trauma‑related behaviours, and additional learning needs
• Support the assessment of progress, recording outcomes, and feeding back to teaching staff
• Assist with personal care duties where required, maintaining dignity, safety, and safeguarding standards
• Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and engagement within a secure setting
• Work closely with teachers, care staff, and multidisciplinary professionals to ensure consistent support
• Act as a positive role model and support learners’ academic, social, and emotional development
Who can apply?
We are looking for candidates who:
• Have significant experience working with children or young people in SEN, residential care, secure, or alternative provision settings
• Hold HLTA status or equivalent experience at a higher support level
• Are comfortable supporting personal care needs as part of the role
• Are calm, resilient, and confident in managing challenging behaviour
• Have a strong commitment to safeguarding vulnerable young people
Requirements:
Teaching Personnel will support successful applicants with:
• Enhanced DBS (Child & Adult Workforce) registered on the Update Service
• References covering the last two years of employment
• Safeguarding, Prevent Duty, and secure‑setting compliance training

All pay rates quoted include 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position, with the potential for a permanent role.
