Head of English Department – Secondary School – Launceston 
Start Date: September 2025
Contract: Temporary to Permanent
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Location: Launceston, Cornwall

We are working with a welcoming and forward-thinking secondary school in Launceston to recruit a Head of English to join their leadership team from September 2025. This is a temporary-to-permanent position, offering the opportunity to make a long-term impact in a supportive and ambitious school environment.

The School:

 The Role:

  • Lead and manage the English Department across KS3 and KS4 (KS5 desirable but not essential)

  • Drive curriculum development and deliver outstanding teaching and learning

  • Monitor progress, raise attainment, and ensure high standards across the department

  • Mentor and support teaching staff within the department

  • Contribute to whole-school improvement and strategy

  • Teaching groups of students KS3-KS5

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a strong background in teaching English

  • Proven leadership or middle leadership experience (e.g. Second in Department or equivalent)

  • A passion for English literature and language and a track record of excellent classroom practice

  • Strong interpersonal and organisational skills

  • A commitment to student progress and high achievement

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
