About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Functional Skills  Tutor to provide tailored educational support to learners in the OL13 area of Bacup, Lancashire. This rewarding role involves delivering personalised Functional Skills tuition during weekday school hours, supporting learners with Special Educational Needs (SEN) to develop essential English and Maths skills, build confidence, and achieve their educational goals.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging 1:1 Functional Skills tuition sessions tailored to individual learning needs.
• Support learners in Functional Skills English and Maths.
• Adapt teaching strategies to meet a range of SEN needs, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, and other learning difficulties.
• Plan and deliver personalised lessons that promote engagement and progress.
• Monitor learner progress and maintain accurate records.
• Build positive and supportive relationships with learners, families, and relevant professionals.
• Encourage learner confidence, independence, and a positive attitude towards learning.

Requirements

• Minimum 1 year of teaching or tutoring experience within the UK.
• Experience teaching or tutoring Functional Skills English and/or Maths.
• Experience supporting learners with SEN.
• Strong understanding of Functional Skills qualifications and curriculum requirements.
• Ability to deliver personalised and differentiated learning.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
• Right to work in the UK.

Desirable

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), PGCE, Cert Ed, DTLLS, or a relevant teaching qualification.
• Experience supporting learners with SEND, SEMH, or those out of mainstream education.
• Previous experience delivering 1:1 tuition.
• Knowledge of EHCPs and targeted intervention strategies.
