Are you an experienced and nurturing Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting children with Special Educational Needs in the Early Years?
We are seeking a dedicated 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to support a pupil within an EYFS setting at a welcoming primary school in Darlington. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a lasting impact during a child's crucial early years of development, helping them build confidence, independence, and a love of learning.
The Role
Working closely with the class teacher and SENCO, you will provide tailored one-to-one support for a child with additional needs, adapting activities and implementing strategies that encourage engagement, communication, and positive progress.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing consistent 1:1 support throughout the school day.
- Supporting the child's communication, social interaction, emotional regulation, and learning.
- Delivering activities tailored to the EYFS curriculum and the child's individual needs.
- Using positive behaviour management strategies and promoting independence.
- Monitoring progress and contributing to observations and individual support plans.
- Working collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external professionals to ensure the best outcomes for the child.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who:
- Has previous experience supporting children with SEN, ideally within an EYFS or primary school setting.
- Has knowledge of needs such as Autism (ASC), speech and language difficulties, ADHD, or developmental delay.
- Is patient, compassionate, and able to build strong, trusting relationships.
- Can adapt their approach to meet individual learning and behavioural needs.
- Holds a Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable but not essential).
- Has an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or is willing to obtain one.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
