Learning Support Assistant – Primary SEMH Specialist Setting

Location: Andover, Hampshire
Hours: Full-time, term time only
Pay: Competitive hourly rate | Temp-to-perm opportunities

A specialist primary SEMH provision in the Andover area is seeking caring, resilient Learning Support Assistants to join its supportive team. The setting works with children aged 5–11 who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, often alongside additional learning difficulties or autism. Pupils may present with challenging behaviour, and staff are supported to work within a structured, nurturing environment.

This role is ideal for individuals with experience supporting children with SEMH needs or managing challenging behaviour. Applicants with transferable experience from care, youth work, behaviour support, or mental health settings are also encouraged to apply. Full training and ongoing support are provided.

The role involves:

  • Supporting pupils in class and on a one-to-one basis

  • Assisting children with emotional regulation and engagement in learning

  • Implementing behaviour support strategies and individual plans

  • Working closely with teachers and support staff

We are looking for candidates who are:

  • Interested in supporting children with SEMH needs

Safeguarding

An Enhanced DBS for the Child Workforce is required, or a willingness to apply for one.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
