English Teacher – SEMH Secondary School (Portsmouth)
Position: English Teacher
Location: Portsmouth
Start Date: 3rd September 2025
Contract: Fixed Term (Until December 2025 – potential for extension)
Salary: Paid to scale
Are you a passionate and resilient English Teacher with experience in SEND and SEMH settings? We’re looking for a dedicated professional to join a small, inclusive secondary school in Portsmouth, specialising in supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
This school provides a nurturing and structured environment for Secondary aged students who may present with challenging behaviour, anxiety, or past trauma, and require a differentiated approach to learning.
The Role:

Deliver engaging and accessible English lessons across KS3 and KS4
- Create individualised lessons for students with varying ability levels

Foster a positive and supportive learning environment
-
Work closely with a dedicated team of SEND professionals
-
Contribute to EHCP targets and behaviour support strategies
- Effectively manage behaviours
What We're Looking For:

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
-
Proven experience working with SEMH, challenging behaviour, or SEND
-
Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
-
Empathetic, patient, and resilient character

A commitment to inclusive education and pupil wellbeing

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
