Head of English Department
Start Date: September 2026
Location: Cambridgeshire
Contract: Permanent, Full Time (including class teaching)
Also welcoming strong English Teachers and Deputy Heads of English seeking progression

We are working with an ambitious and rapidly improving secondary school in the Cambridgeshire area to appoint an exceptional Head of English. This role offers an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and forward‑thinking leader to drive continued improvement in a thriving English department.

The school has undergone significant positive transformation in recent years, with notable improvements in teaching quality, behaviour, leadership capacity and pupil outcomes. As part of their next phase of development, the senior leadership team are seeking a passionate and strategic English specialist who can build on this momentum and lead the department into its next chapter.

To support potential applicants, the school is hosting a pre‑application visit day on Wednesday 18th March. Interested candidates are warmly invited to tour the school, meet the leadership team and gain a clear sense of the culture, values and vision.

The Role

The appointed Head of English will:
• Lead the English department with strategic and operational clarity
• Teach English across Key Stages (including GCSE and, where applicable, A‑Level)
• Drive high standards in curriculum, assessment and teaching practice
• Support and coach colleagues across the department
• Inspire students through excellent subject knowledge and creative pedagogy
• Contribute to whole‑school improvement and ongoing cultural development

This is a full‑time position that includes regular teaching responsibilities.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
