Job description

English Teacher - Durham

Teaching Personnel is recruiting a qualified English teacher for a Durham secondary school. Full time position starting January 2026. Temporary with potential to go permanent depending on how it works out.

Pay is £168.80 to £261.78 per day, paid to scale based on your experience.

What you'll be teaching:

English across KS3 and KS4. Literature, language, creative writing, the usual. You'll plan and deliver lessons (following the national curriculum), assess student progress, manage classroom behaviour, and contribute to department life. Some extracurricular involvement expected but nothing excessive.

You need:

  • QTS in Secondary English
  • Proven experience teaching English at KS3 and KS4
  • Solid classroom management skills
  • Current enhanced DBS on update service (or willing to get one)

Why this role:

It's a full-time position in a Durham school with decent facilities and supportive leadership. Temporary initially, which gives both you and the school time to see if it's the right fit before committing long term. That works for some people, doesn't for others.

What Teaching Personnel offers:

  • Competitive daily rates paid weekly
  • A consultant who knows the school and can give you honest information
  • CPD and training opportunities
  • Access to other schools if this placement doesn't work out

Contract: Full time, temp to perm
Start: January 2026
Location: Durham
