EAL Teaching Assistant LE1
Job description
This vacancy has now expired. Please see similar roles below...
Are you billingual or multi-lingual?
Do you have an EAL qualification?
Have you got experience or training supporting children with EAL?
Then we want to hear from you!
Schools have seen significant increases of students over recent years where English is not their first language and this has put additional pressure on resources. Young children with EAL find it difficult to integrate with their peers and cannot easily access the school curriculum. The language barriers may extend to parents and carers making supporting the child even more challenging.
Teaching Personnel provide staff to work with EAL pupils, helping them develop and model the English language by providing support with reading, writing, listening and speaking. This can often help bridge the gap between school and parents making for a much better outcome all round.
Your work will depend on the age of the children and their individual needs, but may include:
- preparing learning materials under the supervision of the teacher
- working inside or outside the classroom with the individual or supporting them in a group
- adapting support according to needs
- looking after children's physical, social and emotional welfare
- creating a stimulating environment
- giving information and help to teachers
- keeping records and attending review meetings
Working hours are from 8:30am - 3:30pm Monday - Friday term time only but can vary depending on the school/pupils. Teaching Personnel can offer fantastic career development and competitive rates of pay min £9.50 an hour. The role is due to start in September and carry on for the academic year.
