Criminology Graduate Teaching Assistant – Wigan
Are you a Criminology graduate looking to gain hands-on experience working with young people?
Do you want to make a real difference in the classroom while developing your understanding of behaviour and safeguarding?
We are working with several secondary schools across Wigan who are looking to appoint Criminology Graduate Teaching Assistants to support students with behavioural needs, social and emotional challenges, and additional learning needs. These are full-time positions starting from September 2025, with the potential for long-term or permanent roles.
Key Role Details:

Full-time graduate position (Monday to Friday, term time)
-
Based in a Wigan secondary school, starting September 2025
-
Ideal for graduates exploring careers in teaching, youth justice, social work or the police
-
Monthly earnings between £1790–£1900
-
Long-term opportunity with CPD and training provided
As a Criminology Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will:
-
Work closely with students displaying challenging behaviour, anxiety, or low self-esteem
-
Support pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups, helping them engage with learning
-
Assist with behaviour management strategies under the guidance of the SENCo and pastoral team
-
Provide additional classroom support in subjects such as PSHE, Citizenship and Humanities
-
Help deliver intervention programmes around emotional regulation, resilience and restorative practices
You’ll be a great fit if you:
-
Have a Criminology, Sociology or Psychology degree (or are due to graduate soon)
-
Are calm, patient and passionate about supporting young people from diverse backgrounds
-
Have previous experience working with children, young people, or vulnerable individuals (in any setting – schools, youth groups, mentoring, care, etc.)
-
Want to build experience before progressing to a career in education, criminal justice, or youth support
The schools involved offer strong pastoral teams and are committed to providing all support staff with a structured induction and ongoing training.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
