Job description

Cover Supervisor – Secondary Schools | Brighton & Surrounding Areas

Secondary schools across Brighton and the surrounding areas are currently looking for confident, reliable individuals to step into the role of Cover Supervisor.

This is a great opportunity for anyone looking to build experience in education, whether you're an aspiring teacher, recent graduate, or someone with experience working with young people who is ready for a new challenge.

The Role

As a Cover Supervisor, you’ll be leading the classroom in the absence of the teacher, ensuring pupils stay on task and the lesson runs smoothly.

This isn’t a teaching role — but it does require presence, confidence and the ability to manage a room.

You will be:

  • Delivering pre-set lesson work across a range of subjects
  • Managing classroom behaviour in line with school expectations
  • Keeping pupils engaged and focused on their work
  • Responding calmly and confidently to challenges
  • Feeding back to teaching staff on how the lesson went

Who This Role Suits

This role works particularly well for individuals who:

  • Are confident speaking in front of groups
  • Can remain calm and assertive when needed
  • Have experience working with young people (education, sport, coaching, youth work, etc.)
  • Are considering a future career in teaching
  • Want flexible work across different secondary schools

You don’t need formal teaching experience — but you do need to be comfortable leading a classroom.

Access to a car can be a real advantage for this role, as it can open up more opportunities across different schools. However, this is not essential.

What’s on Offer

  • Flexible working to fit around your schedule
  • Opportunities across Brighton and surrounding secondary schools
  • Day-to-day, short-term and longer-term roles
  • Ongoing support from a dedicated consultant
  • Access to CPD and training to build your confidence

Practical Information

  • Roles available across Brighton and surrounding areas
  • Immediate and upcoming opportunities
  • Competitive daily rates
  • A child-only enhanced DBS on the Update Service is required

If you don’t currently have one, you’ll need to apply for one through us.
We’ll support you through the process — but the cost of the DBS is covered by the applicant.

Interested?

If you’re looking to gain classroom experience, build confidence, or step into education in a flexible way, this could be a great next move.
