Cover Supervisor – Secondary Schools

Newport & Torfaen | £110–£140 per day | Term-Time Only
Full-Time & Flexible Opportunities Available

Teaching Personnel is working in partnership with a number of secondary schools across Newport and Torfaen to recruit confident and reliable Cover Supervisors to support learning during short-term teacher absence.

This role is ideal for graduates, aspiring teachers, unqualified teachers, and individuals with experience working with young people who are looking to gain valuable classroom experience while making a positive impact in education.

No lesson planning is required — all work is pre-prepared. Your focus will be on maintaining continuity of learning, managing behaviour, and ensuring a calm and productive classroom environment.


The Role

As a Cover Supervisor, you will work across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (ages 11–16) and may cover a range of subjects. Responsibilities include:

  • Supervising classes in the absence of the class teacher

  • Delivering pre-set work and ensuring pupils remain engaged

  • Managing behaviour in line with the school’s policies and procedures

  • Creating a safe, respectful, and positive learning environment

  • Supporting pupils with tasks and encouraging independence

  • Acting as a positive role model within the classroom

  • Collecting completed work and providing feedback to teaching staff

  • Reporting any concerns regarding behaviour or safeguarding

You will not be required to plan lessons, but you will be expected to confidently lead a classroom.


Who We’re Looking For

We welcome applications from candidates who are:

  • Confident and calm when leading a classroom

  • Professional, organised, and adaptable

  • Strong communicators with good classroom management skills

  • Passionate about supporting young people and education

Essential / Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience working with children or young people (education, youth work, coaching, mentoring, etc.)

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)

  • EWC registration (or willingness to register)

  • Degree-qualified candidates welcomed (not essential for all roles)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
