Chard | Part-Time Supply Work | September 2026 Start | £14.25 Per Hour

Looking for Flexible Education Work That Fits Around You?

Teaching Personnel is seeking experienced Classroom Assistants to join our growing supply team supporting specialist SEND and SEMH provisions throughout the Chard area.

This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who enjoy the flexibility of supply work while continuing to make a meaningful difference to the lives of children and young people with additional needs.

We work with a number of specialist provisions across the local area, offering a variety of placements supporting learners with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), speech and language needs and associated behavioural challenges.

Because these are ad-hoc supply assignments, we are looking for experienced professionals who can confidently enter new environments, quickly establish positive relationships and provide effective support from the start of each placement.

 

What Will Your Day Look Like?

As a Classroom Assistant, you'll play a vital role in helping pupils access education and achieve positive outcomes.

Depending on the setting, your duties may include:

  • Supporting pupils during classroom activities
  • Assisting with individual learning programmes
  • Encouraging participation and engagement
  • Helping learners develop social and communication skills
  • Reinforcing positive behaviour approaches
  • Supporting pupils during transitions and unstructured times
  • Assisting with intervention sessions
  • Preparing and organising classroom resources
  • Working alongside teachers and specialist professionals
  • Promoting a safe, inclusive and nurturing learning environment

Every assignment offers the chance to gain valuable experience across different specialist settings while developing your professional skills.

 

Who Are We Looking For?

We are keen to hear from candidates who already possess relevant experience and are comfortable working within SEND and SEMH environments.

  • A minimum of 6 months' experience supporting children or young people
  • Previous experience within education, care or support roles
  • Excellent communication skills
  • A positive and adaptable approach
  • Confidence working with pupils who require additional support
  • The ability to build rapport quickly
  • A genuine commitment to helping young people succeed

Experience in schools, residential settings, youth work, support work or alternative provisions would be highly advantageous.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
