Job description

Central Bristol based Teaching Assistant

Central Bristol
Full-Time & Part-Time Opportunities
Start Date: ASAP
Mainstream Secondary Schools | KS3 & KS4

Are you great at building relationships with young people and helping them get the most out of school?

I am recruiting Teaching Assistants and Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) to work across mainstream secondary schools in Central Bristol.

I'm looking for positive, reliable and adaptable people who enjoy working with teenagers and can provide the extra support some students need to engage with learning, build confidence and succeed within the classroom.

Depending on your experience, you could provide general classroom support, work 1:1 with individual students, deliver small-group interventions, or support within a school's SEND or inclusion provision.

✅ About the Role

As a Secondary Teaching Assistant, you could be:

  • Supporting students across KS3 and KS4 lessons
  • Providing targeted 1:1 and small-group support
  • Helping students understand tasks and remain engaged with learning
  • Supporting students with SEND, Autism, ADHD or learning difficulties
  • Supporting students with SEMH or behavioural needs
  • Working within SEND resource bases, inclusion hubs or intervention spaces
  • Helping students develop confidence and independence
  • Providing literacy and numeracy support
  • Supporting positive behaviour and emotional regulation
  • Working closely with teachers, SENCOs and pastoral teams

Every school and student is different, so I'll look at your experience, strengths and interests when matching you with opportunities.

✅ Who I'm Looking For

The strongest TAs aren't just good in the classroom. They're often the people who can build trust, understand individual students and provide consistent support, while maintaining clear professional boundaries.

You'll ideally be:

✔ A strong relationship-builder

✔ Patient, approachable and encouraging

✔ Comfortable supporting a diverse range of needs and behaviours

✔ Calm and resilient when a student is having a difficult day

✔ Proactive and confident getting involved within lessons

✔ Adaptable to different students and situations

✔ Reliable and committed

✔ Genuinely passionate about helping young people succeed

✅ Relevant Experience

Already an experienced TA or LSA? Fantastic. However, relevant experience can come from a variety of backgrounds.

I'd also be interested in candidates with experience in:

  • Teaching Assistant / Learning Support Assistant roles
  • SEND Support
  • Youth Work
  • Behaviour Mentoring
  • Sports Coaching
  • Tutoring
  • Pastoral Support
  • Residential Childcare
  • Children's Support Work
  • Family Support
  • Autism / ADHD Support
  • Alternative Provision
  • Community or Outreach Work
  • Mental Health or Wellbeing Support

Previous experience working directly with children or young people is highly desirable.

✅ Requirements

  • Experience working with children or young people
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Confidence working with secondary-aged students
  • Comfortable supporting a range of SEND, SEMH, learning and behavioural needs
  • Ability to build rapport while maintaining appropriate boundaries
  • A reliable and professional approach
  • Commitment to safeguarding and inclusive education
  • Enhanced Child-Only DBS, or willingness to apply for one

✅ Why Apply?

  • Opportunities specifically across Central Bristol
  • Full-time and part-time roles available
  • Gain experience across mainstream, SEND and inclusion support
  • Opportunities matched to your strengths and previous experience
  • Access to ongoing CPD and training
  • Long-term opportunities with the potential to become permanent
  • Dedicated support throughout your placement
