Teaching Personnel are seeking a Behaviour Support Worker on a full time basis within a Pupil Referral Unit in Kirklees in September 2019.

Our client is a well-established school for children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Some pupils have been permanently excluded from Kirklees secondary schools (KS3 & 4). A high proportion of children continue to make a successful return to their local or another mainstream school following their exclusion, some are placed in special school provision.

Staff have worked to develop a high quality provision where young people can learn through supportive interaction, be supported through personalised interventions and experience success in their learning. The school's aim is to create a secure and inspiring environment where every child is supported holistically to enable them to take ownership of their lives, their learning and their decisions.

We are seeking individuals who are:

  • Passionate about creating a safe and stimulating learning environment
  • Able to support and encourage pupils to fulfil their potential and develop a positive attitude towards education
  • Committed to improving the life chances of all pupils by removing barriers to engagement and achievement

You will be confident and resilient to effectively manage pupil behaviour and de-escalate challenging behaviour and support pupils who are at risk of reaching crisis. You will support pupils to access learning activities across the curriculum - including supporting pupils sitting GCSEs at KS4. As a Behaviour Support Worker, you may also be required to provide outreach - accompanying pupils to their host school or supporting pupils in transition to an existing or new provision.

The role will include:

  • Supporting the development of learners' essential skills and emotional resilience within a stimulating and supportive environment
  • Working in line with the SEN Code of Practice
  • Motivating and inspiring young people experiencing social, emotional and mental difficulties. Some pupils may also have physical or medical conditions.
  • Assisting the delivery of lessons to students with SEMH needs in a group basis There will also be the requirement to support pupils 1:1 in alternative settings to re-focus on learning and engagement.

The successful applicant will have a proven track record of successfully engaging vulnerable children and their families and the ability to work imaginatively with parents/carers, teaching/support staff in schools and colleagues in other agencies and provisions.
