A welcoming primary school in Old Trafford is seeking a dedicated 1:1 Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant to work with a Year 4 pupil who finds certain aspects of learning and the school environment challenging. About the Role
In this role, you will provide consistent 1:1 support to help the pupil access learning, regulate emotions, and engage positively with the school day. The child benefits from a calm, patient adult who can provide structure, reassurance, and clear boundaries while encouraging independence and confidence over time.
You will be part of a wider school team and will work closely with the class teacher and SEN staff to implement behaviour strategies and support plans tailored to the pupil’s needs.
This position would suit someone who is:
- Calm, resilient, and emotionally attuned, even in challenging moments
- Confident supporting behaviour in a positive, proactive way
- Patient and consistent, with the ability to build trust and strong relationships
- Observant and reflective, able to adapt support as the child’s needs change
- Committed to seeing progress over time and providing stability throughout the year
Experience supporting children with behavioural, social, or emotional needs is highly desirable, whether in a school, care, youth work, or similar setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing 1:1 behavioural and emotional support throughout the school day
- Supporting the pupil to engage with learning in the classroom and wider school environment
- Implementing agreed behaviour strategies and promoting positive choices
- Helping to manage transitions and potentially challenging moments
- Encouraging independence, confidence, and social development
- Working collaboratively with teaching staff and SEN professionals
- Monitoring progress and feeding back to relevant staff
This role offers the continuity of a long-term placement with the flexibility and support of supply work, including:
- Weekly pay at a competitive rate
- Ongoing support from a dedicated consultant
- The security of a full academic year placement without being tied to a permanent contract
- Opportunities for professional development and future long-term or permanent roles
- A chance to gain in-depth, meaningful experience within one setting
