Pay Rate: £14.25 - £15.50 per hour (depending on experience)
About the School A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Halewood is seeking a dedicated Behavioural Support Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026. The school is committed to supporting pupils with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, ensuring every child has the opportunity to succeed both academically and personally. Through targeted interventions, personalised support plans and a nurturing approach, staff work together to create a positive learning environment where all pupils can thrive.
Role Overview As a Behavioural Support Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting pupils with SEMH needs and behavioural challenges. Working closely with class teachers, the SENCO and wider support staff, you will provide both 1:1 and small-group interventions, helping children develop positive coping strategies, improve engagement and achieve their potential within the classroom.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the implementation of Individual Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs) and targeted interventions for pupils with SEMH needs.
- Provide effective 1:1 and small-group support using trauma-informed and restorative approaches.
- Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils to promote confidence, wellbeing and positive behaviour.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO and external professionals to monitor progress and adapt support strategies.
- Create and maintain a calm, structured and safe learning environment across the school.
- Encourage pupils to develop social, emotional and self-regulation skills that support long-term success.
The Ideal Candidate We're looking for someone who:
- Has experience working with children with SEMH needs, behavioural difficulties or additional learning needs.
- Demonstrates strong behaviour management skills and an understanding of trauma-informed or restorative practices.
- Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Shows resilience, patience and a genuine commitment to supporting vulnerable pupils.
- Can work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team while building strong relationships with pupils and families.
- Is passionate about helping children overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential.
