Supply Teaching Assistant – Pupil Referral Unit (Start September)
Location: Burry Port, Carmarthenshire, Wales
Start Date: September 2025
Contract: Supply with potential for permanent placement
Ages: Primary to Secondary learners

Teaching Personnel is currently recruiting a dedicated Supply Teaching Assistant to work within the a Pupil Referral Unit, supporting learners across a range of ages from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 4.

About the PRU 

A vital part of the local education service, providing specialist support for pupils who are temporarily unable to access mainstream schooling. The unit works with learners displaying a range of emotional, behavioural, and social difficulties, providing a tailored approach to help them re-engage with education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting pupils with social, emotional, and behavioural needs in small group or 1:1 settings.

  • Assisting with tailored curriculum activities and therapeutic interventions.

  • Promoting emotional well-being, resilience, and positive behaviour.

  • Supporting teaching staff with lesson delivery and behaviour management.

  • Ensuring consistency and building trust through positive, stable relationships.

️ Essential Skills and Qualities

  • A calm, resilient, and patient approach.

  • Experience supporting children or young people with challenging behaviour.

  • Ability to form meaningful relationships with learners who may have experienced trauma or disruption.

  • Willingness to support a flexible, often non-traditional curriculum.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Background in education, youth work, care, or similar roles is highly desirable.

  • Team Teach, MAPA, or similar behaviour management training is beneficial (but training can be provided).

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
