Behaviour Support Assistant
Location: Newcastle Upon Tyne
Job Type: Full-Time

Are you resilient, compassionate, and passionate about helping young people reach their full potential? We are seeking a dedicated Behaviour Support Assistant to join our team and provide vital support to students across Key Stages 3 and 4.

This rewarding role involves working closely with pupils who may have Special Educational Needs (SEN), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and behavioural challenges. You will play a key role in helping students remain engaged, develop positive coping strategies, and achieve success both academically and personally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to students
  • Help young people regulate emotions and manage behaviour positively
  • Use calm, consistent, and effective de-escalation strategies
  • Build trusting and supportive relationships with students
  • Promote engagement, attendance, and participation in learning
  • Support classroom teachers in creating a positive learning environment
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SEN teams, and pastoral colleagues
  • Act as a positive role model, encouraging confidence, resilience, and independence

  • Strong behaviour management skills and a calm, patient approach
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities
  • Confidence working with secondary-aged students
  • Resilience, empathy, and a proactive mindset
  • The ability to remain professional and adaptable in challenging situations
  • A commitment to supporting young people's wellbeing and development
  • An enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
