Behaviour Support Assistant - Leeds

Do you have previous experience in a support role? Have you ever worked for CAS Behavioural Health or with people with mental health issues? Are you looking for a new challenge?

A school in Leeds is currently looking for a Behaviour Support Assistant to help support it's KS 1-4 students. The school is a Pupil Referral Unit and these children have been excluded from mainstream education either temporarily or on a permanent basis. They require extra support that is tailored to their individual learning style, aiming to engage and progress them through their eduction and get them back into mainstream schools were possible. The role is long term and you will have the opportunity to go permanent in the role dependent on your capabilities and success in the position.

These students may come from disdvantaged backgrounds, have attachment issues, be looked after or suffer from Social, Emotional and Mental Health issues. They will display challenging behaviours and so you must be confident in deescalating these behaviours and resilient in what might be a difficult role.

We are looking for someone with the following qualities:

  • Resilience in what can be a challenging role
  • Team Teach, MAPA or the equivalent qualification
  • Prior experience working with people with mental health or behavioural issues
  • Open mindedness towards children who may have been misunderstood in the past
