Behaviour Support Assistant

Location: Tameside SK16

Job Type: Full-time, 8.30am-3.30pm

Salary: £13.75- £14.50 per hour

Start date: September 2026

Teaching Personnel are currently seeking an understanding Behaviour Support Assistant to assist pupils in primary schools across the Tameside area. The support of behaviour will be on a 1:1 and small group basis. This is a vital role supporting pupils aged 4–11 who may find school challenging due to behavioural, emotional or social needs. You will work alongside class teachers and external agencies to help these pupils feel safe, supported and ready to learn. The start date for this role will be varied dates within the Summer term and the new academic year so schools can identify where the need for additional behaviour support is required across their schools.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group behavioural and emotional support to specific pupils
  • Help implement and adapt behaviour intervention plans, following school policies
  • Support emotional regulation and promote positive social interactions e.g. learning breaks and social stories
  • Work closely with teachers and SEND staff
  • Create a safe, consistent and structured environment where the child can flourish

What We’re Looking For:

  • A valid DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
  • A person committed to the role and students you are supporting to allow consistency
  • Ability to build and maintain professional relationships with students and school staff
  • Experience working within SEND/youth support/ sports coaching or pastoral support
  • Team teach or equivalent trained (preferred but not essential)
  • Experience using positive behaviour management strategies

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
