Behaviour Support Assistant

Location: Stockton-on-Tees

Salary: £95- £110 per day, depending on experience

About the Role:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Behaviour Support Assistant to join our team in supporting students across our secondary schools. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young people by promoting positive behaviour, emotional wellbeing, and engagement with learning.

As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and senior leaders to support students who may experience behavioural, emotional, or social challenges. You will help create a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment where every student has the opportunity to thrive.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored support to students with behavioural needs, both in and out of the classroom.
  • Promote positive behaviour strategies and restorative approaches.
  • Support staff in managing incidents calmly and consistently.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with students to encourage self-regulation and engagement.
  • Work one-to-one or in small groups to deliver targeted interventions.
  • Assist in developing and implementing individual behaviour plans.
  • Monitor and report on student progress and behaviour patterns.
  • Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and external agencies as required.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience working with young people, particularly those with behavioural or SEMH needs (within education, youth work, or a similar setting).
  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach to supporting students.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Resilience and the ability to remain positive under pressure.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practice or restorative behaviour approaches.
  • Relevant qualifications in education, youth work, or psychology.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
