North Manchester | ️ September Start | Teaching Personnel

Teaching Personnel are seeking a dedicated and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and supportive primary school in North Manchester from September.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about making a genuine difference to the lives of children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. You'll play a vital role in helping pupils overcome challenges, build confidence, and achieve success both inside and outside the classroom.

The Role

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will provide tailored support to pupils who require additional emotional and behavioural guidance throughout the school day.

You will become a trusted adult figure, helping children navigate challenges, regulate their emotions, and engage positively with learning. Through patience, consistency, and understanding, you'll create a safe environment where pupils can thrive.

No two days will be the same, making this a highly rewarding role for someone who enjoys building meaningful relationships and seeing real progress.

Key Responsibilities

✅ Support pupils with SEMH needs both in and out of the classroom

✅ Manage and respond to challenging behaviours using effective de-escalation strategies

✅ Encourage emotional regulation, resilience, and positive social interactions

✅ Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to support their development

✅ Work collaboratively with teachers, SEN staff, and wider school teams

✅ Maintain a structured, safe, and nurturing learning environment

✅ Provide focused 1:1 support where required

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who can bring patience, empathy, and a proactive mindset to the role.

Essential Requirements

✔ Experience supporting, or a strong understanding of, SEMH and behavioural needs

✔ Calm, patient, and resilient approach

✔ Confidence managing dysregulated behaviour

✔ Strong communication and teamwork skills

✔ Ability to provide consistent 1:1 support and guidance

✔ Full-time availability and commitment to a long-term position

✔ Proactive and solution-focused attitude

Desirable Experience

⭐ Previous experience within SEMH, SEN, alternative provision, or specialist education settings

⭐ Team Teach training (or willingness to complete training)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
