Behaviour Support Assistant

Do you have experience supporting vulnerable secondary school students, or any other behaviour support experience?

Our partner school in the High peak District are looking to hire a full time Behaviour Support Assistant to support students displaying challenging behaviour in the classroom and during school time. The position is full time and temporary commencing in September 2021.

The successful candidate will work to support vulnerable students during class alongside regular teachers, promoting positive behaviour and creating a productive work environment for both the students displaying challenging behaviour and the rest of the class. BSA’s will also work with students in small group or 1-1 scenarios, providing structured intervention and pastoral support alongside SEN coordinators and support staff to help raise self-esteem, promote inclusion and ultimately help students reach their academic potential.

BSA’s will also strengthen the schools relationship with parents and carers, providing them with useful and insightful academic and behavioural progress reports, as well as suggesting exercises to complete at home.

The schools location makes it ideal for candidates local to New Mills, Buxton, Glossop and the surrounding areas.

Highlights of this position include:

  • Providing in-class support to students displaying challenging behaviour, looking to promote positive behaviour and maintain a positive working environment
  • Supporting students through academic intervention and pastoral support sessions alongside SEN coordinators
  • Providing parents, carers and guardians with academic progress updates and behavioural reports
  • Dedicated team of support staff and SEN coordinators ready to welcome a new member and strengthen their department
  • Full time and temporary position commencing in the new academic year

To be eligible to apply for this position candidates should have experience supporting secondary school students or otherwise with transferable skills, a desire and passion to support vulnerable young people, aspirations for a career in education, suitable employment references with no safeguarding or disciplinary concerns attached and a child workforce DBS certificate on the update service (or eligibility to apply for one).

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
