Behaviour Support Assistant – SEMH Provision
Location: Blackburn with Darwen
Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm
Pay: £13.75 – £14.50 per hour
Contract: Long-term, full-time
We are seeking a committed and resilient Behaviour Support Assistant to join a specialist SEMH provision in Blackburn with Darwen on a long-term, full-time basis.
This role is ideal for someone with strong behaviour management skills who is confident supporting pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs.

Working in an SEMH setting is rewarding, varied and relationship-driven. Pupils may have experienced trauma, exclusion or disrupted education, and often need consistent, calm adults who can provide structure, boundaries and positive reinforcement. No two days are the same — you will support pupils through emotional highs and lows, celebrate small successes, and play a key role in helping them re-engage with learning and school life.
The Role

Supporting pupils with SEMH needs both in and out of the classroom

Managing and de-escalating challenging behaviour using positive behaviour strategies
-
Building and maintaining strong, trusting relationships with pupils

Providing one-to-one and small group support
-
Supporting emotional regulation and social development
-
Working closely with teachers and pastoral teams to ensure a safe, structured environment
The Ideal Candidate
-
Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
-
Experience working with SEMH, challenging behaviour or vulnerable young people (desirable)

Able to build and maintain positive, professional relationships

Calm, patient and resilient under pressure

Committed to long-term, full-time work

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
