We are seeking a dedicated and empathetic Autism Teaching Assistant to support young people aged 11 to 18 within a highly regarded specialist secondary setting in the Lymington area. This is a unique and rewarding opportunity to work with students who have severe autism and Asperger’s, helping them to thrive academically, socially and emotionally. Both full-time and part-time roles are available, with full-time positions offering an immediate start.
This specialist provision is widely recognised for its calm, structured and therapeutic approach to education. The environment is designed to meet the needs of learners with complex autism, providing consistency, routine and individualised support. Staff are highly valued and work collaboratively within a professional, supportive team that prioritises student wellbeing, personal development and long-term outcomes.
The Role
The core working hours are 8.45am to 4.45pm, although some weekday finish times may vary. You will support students throughout the school day, helping them to engage with learning, manage transitions and develop independence.

Supporting students with severe autism and Asperger’s in a secondary setting

Providing one-to-one and small group support tailored to individual education and behaviour plans

Assisting with communication, emotional regulation and social interaction

Supporting positive behaviour strategies and structured routines

Working closely with teachers, therapists and support staff to deliver consistent care
Essential Requirements

A minimum of six months’ childcare experience

Experience supporting children or young people with SEN, particularly autism

The ability to drive and access to transport due to the school’s location

A calm, patient and resilient approach with a genuine passion for SEN support
Pay and Benefits
This role offers an hourly rate of £13.75 per hour.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
