Autism Support Assistant, Darwen
We have been approached by a SENCo from a primary school in the Darwen area with a vacancy within their Year 3 class. The position is to provide full-time, one-to-one support to a young boy with Autism and is planned to start September 2020. Although the role is initially temporary, the school is looking to take the successful candidate onto a school contract by the end of the academic year.
A key aspect of the role is to create and maintain a learning environment in which the child feels safe and comfortable. This includes setting up a learning station which will enable him to focus upon his learning and will help to motivate him to complete set tasks/ targets. The child is currently working at Year 3 Greater Depth level; he therefore requires frequent opportunities to be challenged and pushed to fulfil his potential. Building a positive relationship with the child is of high importance and will be the basis for making any progress with him.
The school is a one-form entry primary school located in Darwen. In the most recent Ofsted inspection the school was graded ‘good’. The proportion of pupils who have special educational needs and/ or disabilities is above the national average, as is the proportion of disadvantaged pupils in receipt of support through the pupil premium funding. Job Specification:
Essential:
- Experience of supporting an individual with Autism from within the last 6 months
- GCSE English & Maths (A*-C)
- Child workforce DBS on the update service or willing to apply for a new DBS
- Right to work in the UK
Desirable:
- Experience of working within a primary school setting within the last 6 months
