ASD Specialist – Learning Resource Base | Full-Time | Cwmbran | September Start

Do you have a passion for supporting children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)?
Do you have personal or professional experience working with individuals with autism?

We are looking for a full-time ASD Specialist to join a supportive Learning Resource Base (LRB) in Cwmbran, starting in September 2025. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with a small group of pupils who need structure, understanding, and consistent support to reach their full potential.


About the Role:

As an ASD Specialist, you’ll work closely with learners aged 5–16 who have ASD and additional needs. You’ll support pupils in small groups or on a 1:1 basis, helping them access the curriculum, regulate emotions, and build essential life skills.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting students with ASD in the classroom and breakout settings

  • Implementing structured routines, visual aids, and sensory strategies

  • Encouraging positive behaviour and emotional regulation

  • Working with teachers, SENCOs, and therapists to meet individual needs

  • Creating a calm, safe and inclusive environment for all learners


Who We’re Looking For:

You will need:

✅ Experience supporting someone with autism (personal or professional)
✅ A calm, consistent and patient approach
✅ Strong communication and teamwork skills
✅ Willingness to learn and follow behaviour plans and structured routines
✅ A genuine desire to make a difference in children’s lives

Bonus if you also have:

  • Experience working in a school or SEN setting

  • Knowledge of autism support strategies (e.g. PECS, TEACCH, Makaton)

  • Training in behaviour management (e.g. Team Teach, MAPA)

  • Qualifications in SEN, childcare, psychology or education (not essential)


About the Learning Resource Base:

  • Based within a welcoming mainstream school in Cwmbran

  • Provides tailored support to pupils with ASD and complex needs

  • Small class sizes with high staff-to-pupil ratio
