Teaching Personnel is seeking a passionate and resilient Art Teacher to join a specialist Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) school in Wandsworth. This role is perfect for an educator who wants to use art as a tool to engage students with challenging behaviour, helping them express themselves and build confidence in a supportive environment.

The Role:

  • Plan and deliver inspiring Art lessons (KS3 & KS4) tailored to students with SEMH needs, using a variety of mediums (drawing, painting, sculpture, digital art, etc.).

  • Foster a therapeutic and inclusive classroom atmosphere, using art to support emotional regulation and self-expression.

  • Manage challenging behaviour with patience, consistency, and a trauma-informed approach.

  • Collaborate with teaching assistants, therapists, and pastoral staff to support students’ holistic development.

  • Adapt lessons to individual needs, ensuring all students can access and enjoy art, regardless of prior experience.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or relevant teaching experience in the UK.

  • Experience teaching Art at secondary level, ideally within SEMH, PRUs, or alternative provision.

  • Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to engage disaffected learners through creativity.

  • A nurturing yet resilient approach, with a passion for supporting vulnerable young people.

  • Flexibility to tailor lessons to students’ interests and emotional needs.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
