Do you have experience of supporting young people with additional needs?

A Secondary Social, Emotional and Mental Health School in Horwich, Bolton are currently looking for an additional needs mentor. The school caters for young people aged between the ages of 11-16 who have social, emotional and mental health difficulties but also the young people can present challenging behaviours. The specialist academy which provides education for up to 69 young people. The pupils that attend the school have needs identified within an Education Health & Care Plan. The school offers a varied curriculum of academic, vocational and personal one to one education to ensure that its young people have the opportunity to reach their full potential.

As a mentor you have some key responsibilities. You will need to make sure that all of the young people in the class are fully engaged in the class work. You will be there to assist the teacher with whatever needs they may have. If the young people start to cause noise then it is your responsibility to make sure that it is kept to a minimum. Also, you will be assigned 3 young people to be their case worker whilst in school. For this you will need to speak to outside agencies such as; carers, parents, social workers etc. To be successful in applying for this role you must have;

Previous experience of supporting young people who display challenging behaviours

  • Pay between £60-£70 a day
  • A passion for supporting young people with additional needs
  • MAPA Training desirable but not essential
