1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant – Primary School in Helston
Start Date: 1st February 2026
Contract Type: Ongoing supply (with potential for long-term placement)
Pay: £89–£95 per day
Working Pattern: Flexible – full-time and part-time opportunities available

Teaching Personnel are working closely with a supportive and inclusive primary school in Helston to recruit a dedicated 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant. This role involves providing individualised support to a pupil with additional needs, with occasional personal and intimate care requirements.

The school is keen to appoint someone who is patient, compassionate and confident supporting children with communication needs. BSL and/or Makaton knowledge is highly desirable, though training can be provided.


About the Role:

  • Providing consistent 1:1 SEN support within the classroom

  • Supporting pupils across the school day, including learning, communication and emotional regulation

  • Assisting with personal and intimate care when required, following school policies

  • Supporting communication using BSL and/or Makaton where appropriate

  • Working closely with class teachers, SENCOs and support staff

  • Helping to create a safe, inclusive and nurturing learning environment


What We’re Looking For:

✔ Experience supporting children with SEN (school-based experience preferred)
✔ Confidence supporting personal and intimate care needs
BSL and/or Makaton knowledge (desirable but not essential)
✔ A calm, patient and empathetic approach
✔ Flexible availability to meet school needs
✔ A valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
