Job description

Year 3 Teaching Assistant

Location: Halewood, L26
Pay: £14.25 - £15.50 per hour (depending on experience)
Start Date: December 2026
Contract: Full-Time, Long-Term
Potential: Temporary to Permanent Opportunity

A welcoming and inclusive primary school in the Liverpool area is seeking an experienced Teaching Assistant to join their Key Stage 2 team from December 2026. This is a long-term opportunity with the potential to become a permanent position for the right candidate.

As a recruitment consultant working closely with the school, I can confidently say this is an excellent opportunity for a Teaching Assistant who enjoys being fully involved in classroom life. The school takes a collaborative approach to support staff deployment, meaning Teaching Assistants work across the classroom supporting a range of pupils, including those with SEND and those accessing the mainstream curriculum, rather than being assigned solely to one child on a 1:1 basis.

The school has a strong reputation for providing a nurturing, supportive environment where every child is encouraged to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Staff are valued as key members of the team and benefit from a welcoming leadership group committed to professional development and staff wellbeing.

The Role:

As a Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Support teaching and learning across Year 3 classes.
  • Work alongside class teachers to deliver engaging lessons and interventions.
  • Support pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
  • Adapt learning activities to meet individual pupil needs.
  • Promote positive behaviour and engagement throughout the classroom.
  • Assist with small group work, targeted interventions and classroom activities.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, staff and parents.
  • Contribute to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Unlike traditional SEN support roles, this position offers a varied timetable where you will work with pupils across the class, providing support where it is most needed and becoming an integral member of the wider school team.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful applicant will have:

  • Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant within a primary school setting.
  • Experience supporting children with SEND, including autism, ADHD, SEMH or speech and language needs.
  • Strong behaviour management skills.
  • The ability to build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
  • A proactive and adaptable approach to supporting learning.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • A genuine passion for helping children achieve their full potential.

Relevant qualifications such as Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant are desirable but not essential for candidates with significant school-based experience.

About the School

  • Warm, welcoming and inclusive primary school community.
  • Supportive senior leadership team with a strong focus on staff wellbeing.
  • Collaborative working environment where support staff are highly valued.
  • Excellent resources and facilities.
  • Clear behaviour expectations and positive school culture.
  • Ongoing opportunities for professional development.
  • Strong commitment to providing high-quality support for all learners.

Transport Links

The school benefits from excellent transport connections and is easily accessible from:

  • Liverpool City Centre
  • Bootle
  • Crosby
  • Kirkby
  • Huyton
  • Prescot
  • Southport (via rail connections)

There are nearby bus routes and local train stations within commuting distance, making the school accessible for candidates across Merseyside.

Benefits of Working Through Teaching Personnel

  • Competitive weekly pay paid directly through PAYE.
  • Access to a dedicated consultant who understands the local education market.
  • Ongoing CPD and professional development opportunities through our Learning Academy.
  • Flexible opportunities to suit your career goals.
  • Regular work in local schools.
  • Potential for a permanent contract following a successful placement.
