Job description

Year 2 Teacher (Maternity Cover)
Newton Aycliffe | September Start

We’re a warm, community-rooted primary school in Newton Aycliffe looking for a Year 2 teacher to join us from September on a maternity cover basis. This is a class that thrives on curiosity, routine, and the occasional moment of chaos (the good kind).

We’re particularly interested in someone who:

  • Sees phonics and storytelling as equally powerful tools
  • Understands that progress isn’t always linear—but it is always possible
  • Can balance high expectations with genuine warmth
  • Has a knack for making number sense “click” for those who find it tricky
  • Doesn’t mind being asked why at least 47 times a day

In return, you’ll get:

  • A supportive team who plan collaboratively and share ideas freely
  • Leadership that trusts teachers to teach, not just tick boxes
  • Children who will remember you long after the contract ends
  • The chance to step into a well-established classroom with strong routines already in place

This role would suit an experienced teacher or a confident ECT who’s ready to take ownership of a class and make a real impact during a pivotal year.

If you’re the kind of teacher who stays for “just five more minutes” because a child is on the brink of understanding something—this might be your kind of place.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ’s on the Teaching Personnel website for details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We undertake safeguarding checks on all workers in accordance with DfE statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ this may also include an online search as part of our due diligence on shortlisted applicants.
We offer all our registered candidates FREE child protection and prevent duty training. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Full assistance provided.
