Welsh-Medium Teaching Assistants (Secondary)

Locations: Carmarthenshire & Ceredigion
Agency: Teaching Personnel

Are you a fluent Welsh speaker passionate about supporting young people? Teaching Personnel is recruiting Welsh-medium Teaching Assistants to work in secondary schools across Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion.

This is a rewarding opportunity to support learners and gain valuable experience within dynamic, Welsh-speaking school environments.


‍ The Role

As a Welsh-medium Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils across Key Stages 3–4, working closely with teachers to ensure all learners can access the curriculum and succeed.


️ What Could a Typical Day Look Like?

Every day is different, but your role could include:

  • Supporting the teacher in delivering engaging Welsh-medium lessons
  • Providing 1:1 and small group interventions
  • Supporting pupils with varying Additional Learning Needs (ALN)
  • Assisting with literacy, numeracy, and subject-based tasks
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and classroom engagement
  • Adapting resources to meet individual learning needs
  • Supporting pupils during lesson transitions and breaktimes

Supporting Pupils with ALN

Many of the roles we offer involve supporting pupils with Additional Learning Needs (ALN). This may include:

  • Working with learners with Autism (ASD), ADHD, SEMH needs, and moderate learning difficulties
  • Providing tailored support to help pupils regulate emotions and stay engaged in lessons
  • Implementing strategies provided by the school’s ALNCo or teaching staff
  • Offering consistent encouragement and building trust with pupils who may require additional support

Previous experience working with ALN is highly desirable, whether in a school, care, youth work, or support setting. However, we also welcome candidates with a strong willingness to learn and a genuine passion for supporting vulnerable learners.

Requirements

  • An Enhanced DBS certificate (or be willing to apply for one through Teaching Personnel)
  • Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
