Pay Rate: £89.38 per day
Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm
Contract: Full Academic Year
About the Role
Teaching Personnel is seeking an Unqualified Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive secondary school in the Newport, Cwmbran and Blackwood area, supporting pupils aged 11–16.
In this rewarding role, you will play a key part in providing tailored support to students who require extra help to access learning. You will be involved in the school’s Additional Learning Needs (ALN) provision, supporting pupils with diverse needs, including learning difficulties, social, emotional, and behavioural challenges. Your focus will be on removing barriers to learning by offering one-to-one and small group support, reinforcing learning in the classroom, and encouraging positive engagement and behaviour. Working closely with class teachers, the SEN/ALN team, and pastoral staff, you will help create a structured, calm, and nurturing environment where pupils feel understood, supported, and able to succeed.
A flexible and proactive approach is essential, as you may also support students during unstructured times such as breaks and transitions, helping them regulate emotions and build confidence.

What We’re Looking For
We welcome applicants who can bring:
- Relevant experience in childcare, youth work, care, mentoring, coaching, or similar roles (Desirable)
- The ability to stay calm, kind, and approachable in challenging situations
- An understanding of the emotional and social needs of young people
- The ability to support pupils with Additional Learning Needs (ALN) or behavioural needs
- Truly cares about helping children succeed, both emotionally and academically
✅Requirements (or willingness to obtain independently)
To demonstrate commitment to working in education, applicants must hold or be willing to apply for:
- Education Workforce Council (EWC) registration
- Be aged 18 or over
- An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service
- Level 2 Safeguarding training
- A minimum of two professional references covering 24 months of employment

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
