Job description

Are you a passionate educator with experience supporting students outside of mainstream education? We’re looking for a committed and compassionate Alternative Provision (AP) Tutor to support vulnerable and disengaged learners across Sunderland.

About the Role:
As an AP Tutor, you’ll work with young people who are not in mainstream school due to behavioural, emotional, or medical needs. You’ll deliver tailored 1:1 or small group tuition, helping to re-engage students in their education and improve academic outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons in core subjects (English, Maths, Science, etc.)

  • Adapt learning to suit each student's individual needs and EHCPs

  • Provide academic and emotional support to help students achieve their potential

  • Record progress and provide feedback to schools, families, and professionals

  • Travel to student homes, community settings, or alternative provision sites as required

Ideal Candidate:

  • Qualified Teacher (QTS/QTLS) or experienced tutor with relevant background

  • Experience working with SEMH, EHCP, PRU, or excluded pupils is highly desirable

  • Strong behaviour management and interpersonal skills

  • Up-to-date Enhanced DBS (or willing to obtain)

  • Understanding of safeguarding and confidentiality protocols

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
