Teaching Personnel are looking for tutors to work in the Derby and Derbyshire areas (across Burton, Derby Central and Chesterfield areas), working 1:1 with Looked After Children who are mixed ages and abilities.

Many of the young people in care present with Attachment Disorder and have experienced significant trauma in their lives. They may also present with challenging behaviour including absconding, swearing physical aggression, property damage and innappropriate sexualised behaviour. The role would involve planning and delivery of all lessons, in addition to providing a weekly feedback form to report on progress and behaviour.

Ideal candidates for this role will be:

  • Experienced working on a 1:1 basis with pupils either in schools or as a 1:1 tutor outside of the classroom environment
  • Experience in teaching cross-curricular subjects, including Maths and English, using a creative approach to engage the students
  • Confident to manage extremely challenging behaviour including verbal and physical aggression
  • Able to work with anxious students and offer a nurturing approach
  • Confident to liaise effectively with the residential home, schools and other professionals including social workers
  • Able to create engaging, innovative lesson plans to help keep the student motivated as much as possible
  • Reliable in sending weekly feedback reports so that progress can be tracked and monitored regularly.
  • Able to deliver a range of cross-curricular subjects pitched at the correct level 
  • Able to be responsible for the safety and welfare of the pupil at all times, in addition to having a strong awareness of Child Protection issues (additional training is desirable but not essential)
