SEMH Teaching Assistant – Special Educational Needs Support

Location: Salisbury, Wiltshire
Salary: £13.75 an hour | Term Time Only | CPD Training Provided
Contract: Full-time, Part-time, Flexible Options


Are you passionate about supporting children with Special Educational Needs?

We are looking for a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join our team and make a real difference in the lives of young people aged 5–16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs and other behavioural challenges.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support classroom teachers in delivering tailored learning for students with SEN, including:
    • SEMH
    • ADHD / ADD
    • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
    • Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD)
    • Conduct Disorder (CD)
    • Obbsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
    • Speech and Language Difficulties
  • Create a safe, inclusive learning environment
  • Help students develop coping strategies, social skills, and confidence
  • Collaborate with teachers and support staff to implement positive behaviour strategies

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience in SEN, SEMH, or similar support roles
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations
  • Understanding of positive behaviour support and de-escalation techniques
  • Patient, resilient, and compassionate approach to supporting young people

Benefits

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
