Teaching Personnel is currently recruiting for a Science Teaching Assistant to join one of our client schools in Stockport. This position will be full time, starting in September at the beginning of the academic year.

The salary for this will be between £385 and £450 per week.

Our Stockport-based client school is currently looking for either a recent graduate from a scientific background or an experienced science teaching assistant to join their science department. This school is in a disadvantaged area, the proportion of students who are eligible for free school meals is 10% higher than the national average. Currently 27% of their student population leave year 11 having achieved a grade 5 or higher in both Maths and English, the local average for this is 50%.

As the school is undergoing vast changes to make improvements, this position will be hugely important. The key responsibilities for this position will be:

  • Working with pupils on a 1:1 basis or in small groups to target the learning needs of those pupils who are struggling the most.
  • Assessing the progress of pupils, being able to give feedback to the teacher to ensure that as a department the child’s needs are understood.
  • Ensuring that all safeguarding procedures are followed correctly, and that any situations are dealt with in an appropriate manner.
  • Assisting the teacher in the preparation and delivery of lessons, including any scientific experiments.
  • Accompanying the teacher on any external visits.

Throughout this position, you will be supported by Teaching Personnel as well as the school that you will be working in. For a recent graduate, this is an ideal opportunity to gain experience in the classroom, for the right candidate, Teaching Personnel will support you when you become a fully qualified with the potential for a permanent teaching position.

For this position, it is essential that you are willing to apply for a fully enhanced DBS check, and that you are able to provide at least two employment-based references. You must also have a good understanding of safeguarding procedures.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
